It’s the middle of the summer. It’s hot. It’s humid. Your yard is… wilting? Struggling? Don’t get frustrated. John Madison Landscape is here to help you know just what you should be doing during one of Florida’s hottest months

  • If you are an owner of Zoysia grass, this month is the best month to control insects because they are small and feeding near the soil surface. Check for any white bugs especially because these are lawn pests that that chew through the root systems of your grass.
  • Halfway through August, apply 1/2 pound of nitrogen per 1,000 square foot of sod. Use a complete nitrogen-phosphorous, potassium turf fertilizer.
  • If you plant something this month, make sure it is heat tolerant!
  • If your palm tree fronds are yellowing, apply magnesium sulfate (Epsom Salts).
  • Trim both poinsettias & chrysanthemums during August to allow buds to form for the winter.
  • For annuals and perennials, remove old blooms and fertilize and trim flowering ones to extend their blooming season into the fall.
